5,000+ products. 77,000+ source-file lines. One online catalogue.

Karodias already had a working internal system and a huge fabric catalogue. The challenge was not “build a website.” It was getting that operational data online without forcing the business to rebuild everything manually or abandon the system its team already trusted.

The real challenge

The source data was much messier than a standard product import.

The catalogue included parent/child relationships, duplicates, repeated rows and cases where related records contained different information. That meant the workflow had to interpret the source data rather than simply push every line into a product table.

One product could span many records.

Related rows had to be understood together. A simple “one row equals one product” importer would have created duplicates, lost relationships or produced incomplete products.

Different rows could contain different useful information.

More than 100 source rows contained differing information that needed to be reconciled carefully instead of blindly overwritten or discarded.

The catalogue had thousands of images.

Many products had two or more images. Manually preparing, resizing and associating that volume of imagery would have created an unnecessary ongoing workload.

The existing internal system was already valuable.

Karodias did not need a technology project that disrupted a useful internal process. The better answer was to build the online layer around it.

The approach

Turn the internal data into a repeatable publishing workflow.

Instead of treating the first catalogue upload as a once-off data-cleaning project, the solution was designed so the website could continue to work with the business's existing data source.

That reduced duplicate administration and meant the website could behave more like an extension of the existing operation.

1. Read and interpret the source fileHandle parents, children, duplicate records and data spread across multiple lines.
2. Consolidate the product informationTransform the internal structure into usable online product data.
3. Associate the correct imageryMatch product images to the resulting catalogue entries.
4. Prepare images automaticallyResize and convert images to WebP rather than processing them manually.
5. Publish pricing and catalogue updatesKeep the online catalogue connected to the underlying business workflow.
What Dsign automated

The repetitive parts became software work instead of staff work.

01

Data transformation

Convert a complex internal catalogue source into structured online product data.

02

Relationship handling

Interpret parent, child and duplicate records instead of treating every row independently.

03

Pricing workflow

Move pricing into the online catalogue through the automated publishing process.

04

Image association

Match the relevant product imagery to the correct catalogue entries.

05

Image resizing

Prepare image dimensions automatically instead of editing thousands of files by hand.

06

WebP conversion

Convert images into modern WebP output as part of the workflow.

The important decision

Do not replace a useful internal system just because the website is new.

Karodias already had an internal process that supported the business. Replacing it would have created training, migration and operational risk without automatically creating more value.

The website was therefore built around the process that already worked, with automation handling the difficult translation between internal data and the public catalogue.

Technology should adapt to a strong business process — not force the business to abandon it.That principle shaped the Karodias project from the catalogue architecture through to the image workflow.
The outcome

A large online catalogue without creating a second manual catalogue-management job.

Thousands of products online

The business could publish a very large catalogue without manually rebuilding every product one by one.

Less duplicated administration

The online workflow used the information generated by the existing operation rather than asking staff to maintain a separate catalogue manually.

Repeatable image preparation

Resizing and WebP conversion became part of the automated workflow instead of a recurring manual production task.
